Epoxy System for Composite Cylinder

Description

Cylinders and Pressure Vessels play a crucial role in storage of Gases and Liquids at different ambient pressures. As technology advances and demand evolves, innovations in design and manufacturing processes Transforming these storage solutions, particularly with the development of Composite Cylinders.

Such Technological Revolution in the field of Cylinders and Pressure Vessels is the evolution of Composite Cylinders and Pressure Vessels. Composite Cylinders are a blend of High End Epoxy Resin Systems with Advanced Reinforced Materials (Like Carbon Fiber, Fiberglass & Aramid etc.)

Epoxy Resins are Thermosetting Polymer Resins offering superior Chemical Resistance and Adhesion Properties. Our Epoxy Systems are specially designed and formulated for advanced applications as for composite cylinders. These Epoxy Systems provide superior bonding with fiber reinforcements, resulting in high-performance storage solutions that resist both heat and chemicals effectively.

Manufacturing Process: Composite Cylinders with Epoxy Resin System

Composite cylinders and pressure vessels are manufactured using a process called filament winding. This mechanical technique involves feeding fibre tows into a filament winding machine, which then winds them onto a cylindrical base in a predetermined geometric pattern.

As the fibres are being wound, they are passed through a resin bath, ensuring they are wet. The continuous flow of wet fibres onto the base, followed by repetition of this process, results in the creation of composite products through the filament winding process.

Applications of Epoxy System for Composite Cylinders

Composite cylinders are used in applications where lightweight, high-strength, rust & corrosion free materials are needed. Here are a few examples of where composite cylinders can be used:

  • Composite CNG Cylinders
  • Composite LPG Cylinders
  • Composite Hydrogen Cylinders

Classification of Composite Cylinders

Composite Cylinders can be categorized by cylinder type, tank type, and fiber type. The below image provides a classification of “Composite Cylinders” based on three different categories:

  • Cylinder Type:

    • LPG: Liquefied Petroleum Gas, used as a fuel in heating appliances, cooking equipment, and vehicles.
    • CNG: Compressed Natural Gas, often used as a fuel for vehicles.
  • Tank Type:

    • Type II: Cylinders with a metal liner and composite reinforcement on the cylindrical part.
    • Type III: Cylinders with a metal liner that is fully wrapped with composite material.
    • Type IV: Cylinders with a plastic liner that is fully wrapped with composite material.
  • Fiber Type:

    • Glass: Refers to Fiberglass, a common material used in composites for its strength and lightweight properties.
    • Carbon: Refers to carbon fiber, known for being very strong and lightweight, often used in high-performance applications.
    • Aramid: A type of synthetic fiber known for its strength and heat resistance, often used in military and aerospace applications.
